Hi, everyone!Сегодня продолжим работать с условными предложениями. А если быть точнее, то со всеми способами выражения сожаления об упущенных возможностях.Если есть вопросы по этим темам, то пересмотрите, за-конспектируйте.Wish, if only, had better, would rather — сожалеем, предпочитаем, настойчиво советуем…

Приступаем!!
When do we use I WISH and IF ONLY in English? Well, we use them to express regret. This means that we feel bad about something in the present or in the past. Something we would like to change, but probably can’t. So, we use I WISH and IF ONLY to show other people just how we feel. For example, «I WISH I played piano». This is a present regret. I don’t play piano now. We could also say «I WISH I had studied» piano». This is a regret about the past. I didn’t study piano in the past (and I can’t change the past) but I feel bad now. If we want to make that sound stronger, we can use IF ONLY.Примеры:

So, we use the constructions ‘I wish’ and ‘if only’ to express regret about something. To speak about regrets in present we can use past simple, could and past continuous.

— I wish you were here.
— If only I knew about it.

To speak about the past we use past perfect.

— If only I had known.
— I wish you had been here.

Let’s find out more about expressing regret and using I WISH and IF ONLY in this video lesson.
